PIHR is No Longer Operational – But Our Mission Continues

The Pakistan Institute of Human Rights (PIHR) was a not-for-profit volunteer organization dedicated to promoting and delivering universal human rights through Information Communication Technologies (ICTs). PIHR operated from 2005 to 2015, advocating for civil, political, social, economic, and cultural rights while strengthening democratic values, justice, equality, peace, and security in Pakistan.

PIHR’s Contributions & Key Projects:

Education & Digital Empowerment

  • Connecting Schools – Enabling Communities – ICT-enablement of schools and underserved communities.
  • Awami Taraqi Markaz (Multipurpose Community Telecentres - MCTs) – Community-led digital empowerment centers.
  • Empowerment of Un/Under-Served Communities (EBCs & CBCs) – Establishing Educational and Community Broadband Centres in collaboration with PTCL.
  • Mainstreaming Religious Madaris (2002-2004) – Introducing contemporary education and ICT training in 94 religious seminaries.

Governance, Human Rights & Advocacy

  • E-Justice & E-Governance Awareness & Advocacy – Digital governance and legal empowerment.
  • Strengthening Democratic Values – Political advocacy and democratic awareness campaigns.
  • Political Advocacy & Awareness Campaign (2005-2007) – Training for local NGOs, police officers, and dispute resolution committees.
  • Transparency Pakistan (2007) – A digital platform improving public awareness of governance and accountability.

Social Development & Awareness Campaigns

  • Larna Nahi, Parhna Hai (2008) – A youth-driven campaign promoting education over intolerance.
  • Tolerant Pakistan Initiative – Engaging youth to denounce intolerance and promote inclusion.
  • Gender Equality for Development & Empowerment (GE4DE) – Advocating for women’s rights and gender-inclusive development policies.

ICT for Development (ICT4D)

  • ICT4D Research & Advocacy – Promoting the use of ICTs in social development and research.
  • Legal & Strategic Interventions – ICT-based solutions for human rights cases and policy reforms.

Future Plans

Though PIHR ceased operations in 2015, our commitment to human rights and digital empowerment remains strong. We plan to launch new projects in the near future, continuing our work in democracy, education, and technology-driven advocacy. Any updates on future initiatives will be announced here.
